In a bold and emotional move, Students for Life of America (SFLA) has launched a nationwide campaign calling on Congress to declare October 14 — Charlie Kirk’s birthday — as “Charlie Kirk Free Speech Day.”
The initiative, announced by SFLA President Kristan Hawkins, aims to celebrate Kirk’s lifelong mission of defending free speech and inspiring young Americans to speak boldly, even in the face of hostility.
“Charlie Kirk dedicated his life to defending free speech and inspiring a generation to speak boldly,” Hawkins said in a press statement. “In his honor, we’re calling on Congress to make October 14th, Charlie’s birthday, a national holiday called Charlie Kirk Free Speech Day.”
The proposal comes at a time when the nation faces unprecedented political division and growing censorship on college campuses. Hawkins emphasized that such a day would serve as a powerful reminder of Kirk’s message — that peaceful dialogue, courage, and conviction are vital to keeping America free.
“Our highly fractured country needs to remember that peacefully talking with each other represents a foundational virtue,” Hawkins added.
The announcement immediately set social media ablaze, with thousands of supporters echoing the call under hashtags like #FreeSpeechDay and #HonorCharlieKirk. Many described the initiative as “a tribute America needs right now”, highlighting Kirk’s enduring influence on youth activism and conservative thought.
Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, spent his life empowering students to challenge ideas, think critically, and defend the principles of liberty. His unapologetic stance for truth made him both a controversial and inspirational figure — one who shaped the national conversation around free speech and faith.
If approved, “Charlie Kirk Free Speech Day” would join a short list of national commemorative days honoring individual Americans for their civic impact. Supporters envision it as a day of campus events, open forums, and community discussions centered on the value of respectful, fearless expression.
Across the nation, people are rallying behind the cause, viewing it not only as a tribute to Kirk but also as a movement to rekindle America’s foundational spirit of dialogue and courage.
