Deserving of their spot in the Hall of Fame

The Pittsburgh Steelers have produced more than their share of legends — and now, three of them are at the center of the latest Pro Football Hall of Fame debate.

Former teammates and NFL veterans are making their voices heard, saying James Harrison, Maurkice Pouncey, and Hines Ward all belong in Canton. Each left a mark on one of the league’s most storied franchises — and on the game itself.

“If toughness, leadership, and winning matter, all three should already have gold jackets,” said former teammate Ryan Clark on ESPN this week. “You can’t tell the story of the Steelers — or the NFL — without those names.”

Harrison, one of the most feared defenders of his era, won two Super Bowls and was named the 2008 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. His legendary 100-yard interception return in Super Bowl XLIII remains one of the most iconic plays in NFL history.

Pouncey, a nine-time Pro Bowler and leader on the Steelers’ offensive line, anchored one of the most consistent protection units in the league for over a decade. Known for his toughness and intelligence, he earned respect from both sides of the ball.

Hines Ward, meanwhile, continues to be one of the most debated names among Hall of Fame voters. A Super Bowl MVP and one of the most physical receivers to ever play the game, Ward’s combination of production, blocking ability, and clutch performances made him a Pittsburgh legend.

“People forget — Hines wasn’t just catching passes,” said Ben Roethlisberger on his Footbahlin podcast. “He changed how wide receivers play the game. He made defenses respect the physical side of the position.”

While all three face stiff competition from other candidates, the growing wave of support from former players and analysts could give them the boost they need.

For Pittsburgh fans, it’s more than just recognition — it’s validation for a generation of Steelers football defined by grit, loyalty, and rings.

“Those guys are Steelers football,” said Clark. “They deserve their place in Canton. Period.”
