CHICAGO — Former Chicago Bulls guard Patrick Beverley is making headlines after his arrest in Texas on a third-degree felony assault charge, telling fans not to believe early reports circulating online. The Chicago native, known for his defensive tenacity and fiery personality, posted a $40,000 bail and addressed the situation publicly on X (formerly Twitter) late Friday, urging caution about the narrative being spread.
“Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv❤️🙏🏾,” Beverley wrote, hinting that details about the arrest may have been misrepresented.
According to TMZ Sports, Beverley allegedly assaulted a family or household member and impeded the person’s breathing, a serious felony under Texas law. No court date has been set, leaving questions swirling about what really happened that night.
Beverley pushed back strongly against the allegations, insisting his actions were motivated by concern for his younger sister. “Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister — a young lady, a minor,” his attorney stated.

According to the statement, Beverley returned home unexpectedly and discovered his underage sister alone late at night with an 18-year-old man. “He was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister. However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court,” Beverley’s legal team added.
Beverley, a product of Chicago’s Marshall High School, returned home in February 2023 when he signed with the Bulls, generating excitement across the city. Known for his fiery defense and emotional leadership, Beverley quickly became a fan favorite, even in his brief stint.
“I’m really excited,” Beverley told reporters during his introduction. “You can tell by the energy I have, the smile on my face, the joy. Just a born leader. The way I play, I run through a wall for any team I play. This is even more — it’s the city where I’m from.”
During his time in Chicago, Beverley averaged 5.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.0 steals over 22 games, helping the Bulls push into the Play-In Tournament alongside stars DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine. His defensive prowess and hometown pride made him a memorable presence on the team despite his short tenure.
Beverley’s Texas arrest is the latest incident in a string of off-court controversies. He has not played in an NBA game since May 2, 2024, when the Bucks lost to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference playoffs. During the game’s final minutes, Beverley became involved in a highly publicized altercation with fans, striking a woman with a basketball and later throwing it back into the stands.
The incident resulted in a four-game NBA suspension, which Beverley has yet to serve, as well as a lawsuit filed by Pacers fans accusing him of causing “physical pain,” emotional distress, humiliation, and financial damages, including medical bills and lost wages.
Earlier this year, Beverley’s stint with Israel’s Hapoel Tel Aviv ended after the team suspended him, and he remains unsigned by an NBA team for the current season. At 37, the veteran guard now faces the latest chapter of his tumultuous off-court life.
As the legal process unfolds, Beverley maintains his focus on defending his actions and protecting his reputation. Fans, former teammates, and analysts alike are watching closely to see how this situation develops — and whether the former Bulls standout can navigate his way through yet another storm in his controversial career.
