The couple also expressed their deep gratitude to the Dodgers organization — the “big baseball family” — for their compassion and support during this difficult time.
Vesia and Kayla also thanked all Dodgers fans, Blue Jays fans, and baseball fans in general: “We have seen all of your messages, comments, and posts. They have all brought great comfort to our family.”
They also thanked the medical staff at Cedars-Sinai Hospital — who have accompanied Kayla and Sterling during their sad days.
The cause of Sterling Sol Vesia’s death has not yet been clearly announced.
Previously, the Dodgers announced that Vesia would be absent from the World Series lineup due to “an extremely personal family matter.”

This is the reason he was not allowed to travel with the team for the final series, and this decision received sympathy from the team leadership.
The solidarity in the baseball community was clearly shown. In Game 3 of the World Series, Dodgers pitchers stitched the number 51 (Vesia’s jersey number) onto their hats as a meaningful tribute.

Not only the Dodgers, but also the Blue Jays players joined in the action in the following games as a deep expression of love and respect for Vesia and her family.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shared that this was a moment that showed “life is bigger than baseball”: “What Alex and Kayla are going through — it’s bigger than every game and every trophy. The players understand that.”

Kiké Hernández — Vesia’s teammate — also said that “life is bigger than the game. It showed me that there was a real sense of empathy between the players.”

Despite not being present in the deciding game, Vesia was still an important factor for the team throughout the season and the playoffs before. According to the Los Angeles Times, he had an impressive 3.02 ERA in 68 appearances in the regular season and continued to contribute in the postseason before withdrawing.
The Dodgers also exercised Vesia’s contract option for next season, expressing confidence in his ability to bounce back from the incident.
In response to the condolences, many fans and the baseball community expressed their deep support, sending messages of love, prayers and spiritual strength to Vesia and Kayla’s family during this time of great loss.
