On February 9, Mr. Trump became the first sitting president to attend the NFL Super Bowl 59 match between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans, Louisiana. This is the biggest sporting event of the year in the US, attracting many celebrities.

Reuters news agency described many cheers and boos when US President Donald Trump appeared. He attended the match with his daughter Ivanka and son Eric, as well as some lawmakers. First Lady Melania Trump did not attend.

Trumpâs policies have sparked controversy and backlash in the sports world in recent weeks. Since taking office, he has issued executive orders to crack down on immigration and end government diversity programs.

However, the National Football League (NFL) has said it will continue its efforts to promote inclusion. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said on February 9 that he has no plans to scale back the leagueâs diversity programs.
During his first term, Trump also criticized the league and NFL members after black players knelt during the national anthem to draw attention to racial injustice.

During the February 9 game, the NFL replaced its âEnd Racismâ slogan, which it has done since 2021, with âChoose Love.â
Last year, while running for president, Trump ran ads during football games criticizing his Democratic opponent, former Vice President Kamala Harris, for her stance on transgender rights.
Last week, the US president signed an executive order to ban transgender people from womenâs sports.
