The NFL trade deadline is fast approaching, and two of the league’s most historic franchises — the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots — are reportedly showing strong interest in Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons, per multiple sources close to league discussions.

While no formal trade talks have been confirmed, league insiders believe both teams are closely monitoring Simmons’ situation as Tennessee evaluates its long-term roster strategy. The Titans, currently in a transitional phase, could entertain major moves if the return package includes significant draft capital or young assets.
Simmons, 27, is one of the premier interior defenders in football — a two-time Pro Bowler and former first-round pick known for his rare blend of size, athleticism, and power. Since entering the league in 2019, he’s established himself as a game-wrecker in the middle, capable of disrupting both the run and pass with equal dominance.
For Dallas, acquiring Simmons would be a bold move to strengthen an already fierce defensive front anchored by Micah Parsons and Demarcus Lawrence. The Cowboys’ defense has been elite, but interior push has occasionally been their weak point — a hole Simmons could fill immediately. His presence could take Dan Quinn’s unit from great to nearly unstoppable.
Meanwhile, for New England, interest in Simmons signals a potential philosophical shift. The Patriots have long valued defensive line play under Bill Belichick, and with the team in the midst of a rebuild, Simmons could serve as a foundational piece for the next era of Patriots football.
The challenge, however, lies in the price. Simmons signed a massive four-year, $94 million contract extension in 2023, making him one of the highest-paid defensive linemen in the NFL. Any team pursuing him would need to absorb a hefty cap hit — and Tennessee would likely demand at least a first-round pick in return.
Still, both the Cowboys and Patriots are known for making aggressive mid-season moves when opportunity strikes. Whether this rumor turns into reality remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure — Jeffrey Simmons could be the biggest name to watch as the trade deadline looms.
