🚨 BREAKING: Veteran Warriors Face Start-Line Shakeup — Could He Be Benched Next?.P1

The Golden State Warriors’ experiment with veteran guard Buddy Hield is quickly turning into a nightmare. Once valued for his three-point shooting and veteran presence, Hield is now posting career lows across key metrics: 16.7 minutes per game, 6.6 points, and a 31.6% three-point shooting percentage. But the numbers beneath the surface reveal an even more alarming story — one that could see Hield lose even more playing time or potentially get benched altogether.

The warning signs are glaring in the Warriors’ on/off statistics. When Hield is on the floor, Golden State allows 124.8 points per 100 possessions, placing them in the 8th percentile league-wide — a defensive performance that is catastrophic by any measure. Conversely, when Hield is off the floor, the Warriors allow just 107.4 points per 100 possessions, ranking in the 92nd percentile. That 17.4-point swing in defensive net rating is the third-worst in the NBA, according to Cleaning the Glass, and highlights that Hield’s defensive struggles have reached a crisis level this season.

Hield has long been criticized for his defense, but the disparity this year is unprecedented. Last season, Golden State allowed only 1.7 more points per possession with Hield on the court, offset by a 2.5-point offensive boost. This year, however, the offense barely improves — and the defense is a full-blown disaster. Simply put, the trade-off that once justified Hield’s minutes no longer exists.

It’s important to note that Hield isn’t the only player under scrutiny, but the Warriors’ core stars remain steady. Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler continue to provide consistent production and leadership, while younger contributors like Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski, and Quinten Post deliver solid minutes in supporting roles. The glaring issue lies with the roster outside of these key players, and Hield’s struggles have amplified the problem.

The team’s coaches now face a tough decision. Do they continue to rely on Hield, hoping for a turnaround, or do they adjust the lineup to protect their defensive rating and improve overall efficiency? The latter could mean a bench role or even fewer minutes for Hield, a significant demotion for a player who was expected to be a key contributor.

For Warriors fans, this situation is a cautionary tale about balancing offense and defense in a team built around stars. Even a player with a proven scoring pedigree can become a liability if defensive shortcomings outweigh offensive contributions.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Hield and the Warriors’ coaching staff. Can Hield find his form and justify his spot in the starting lineup, or will the team make the painful choice to bench a veteran in favor of lineup efficiency? The coming weeks may hold the answer — and could redefine Golden State’s trajectory this season.
