The Miami Dolphins may not plan to trade star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, but that hasn’t stopped the phones from ringing — and one of the most aggressive callers, according to multiple league insiders, has been none other than the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Sources close to the situation report that Pittsburgh’s front office has quietly “checked in” on Waddle’s availability, despite Miami’s firm stance that he’s “untouchable.” Still, with the Dolphins sitting at 1-6 and facing a potential rebuild, the right offer could change everything.
For the Steelers, who are desperate to add another offensive weapon for Aaron Rodgers, the idea of pairing Waddle’s breakaway speed with DK Metcalf’s physical dominance could be too tempting to ignore. In an AFC packed with high-octane offenses, Pittsburgh has shown flashes of greatness — but also moments of frustration, particularly when it comes to explosive plays.
“Rodgers still has the arm, no doubt,” one AFC scout said. “But give him a guy like Waddle — someone who can turn a five-yard slant into a seventy-yard touchdown — and you’re talking about a completely different Steelers team.”
The Steelers’ leadership reportedly views this as more than just a midseason move — it’s a potential Super Bowl-caliber transformation. Coach Mike Tomlin has long emphasized physicality and discipline, but insiders say he’s privately pushed for more speed and versatility on offense. Waddle would bring both in spades.
Of course, Miami’s reluctance to part ways with one of its cornerstone players remains a massive obstacle. Waddle, just 25, has already surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first two seasons and is widely seen as one of the league’s most dynamic young playmakers.
Still, strange things happen before the NFL trade deadline. One NFC executive put it bluntly:
“If Pittsburgh offers a first-rounder and a top defensive prospect, Miami would have to at least listen. Waddle could be the kind of player who puts the Steelers over the top.”
For now, both sides are playing it cool. But make no mistake — this rumor has legs.
If the Steelers pull this off, it wouldn’t just shake up the AFC…
It could redefine what championship offense looks like in Pittsburgh. 🖤💛🔥
