Pat Murphy and Stephen Vogt Win Second Consecutive MLB Coach of the Year
12 November 2025 MLB Announces BBWAA Coach of the Year Awards The winners were Milwaukee Brewers’ Pat Murphy and Cleveland Guardians’ Stephen Vogt, both of whom successfully defended their titles in 2024
At 66, manager Pat Murphy continues to prove his immense influence at Milwaukee Brewers Under his leadership, the team won 97 games in the 2025 season, leading the NL and earning the No. 1 seed in the playoffs
The highlight of the season was a mid-season run of form as the Brewers won 29 of 33 games, including 14 straight victories – one of the most impressive streaks in team history

Although Murphy had to part ways with some key players in the preseason, but he still helped the team maintain its strength and continue to dominate the NL Central for the second consecutive season
With this title, Murphy became the first NL manager to win the award two years in a row since Bobby Cox in 2004‑05, cementing his status as one of the best managers of the decade
In the American League AL, 41-year-old Stephen Vogt received 17 of the first 30 votes, beating John Schneider, Toronto, and Dan Wilson, Seattle, to retain their title
Under Vogt, the Cleveland Guardians won their second consecutive AL Central title despite a seemingly hopeless situation. They trailed by 15.5 games on July 6 — the largest deficit in MLB history — before rallying to finish the season 20‑7 in September
The team also faced a number of challenges, from injuries to the loss of several Key pitcher due to betting investigation Vogt still led the team to maintain a strong fighting spirit to finish the season at the top of the AL Central table
With this victory, Vogt became the first AL manager to defend the “Manager of the Year” title since Kevin Cash in 2020‑21
It is extremely rare in MLB history for both coaches to successfully defend the title in the same season. This is also the first time since the award was created in 1983 that both NL and AL managers have repeated their victories
Both Murphy and Vogt have only experienced their first two seasons as head coaches in MLB but have quickly left a strong mark
Murphy is a model of disciplined, pragmatic and stable leadership
Vogt brings a youthful spirit and the ability to inspire young players

The “Coach of the Year” award is one of MLB’s most prestigious titles by BBWAA members The award was announced during “MLB 2025 Honors Week,” the event that kicks off the off-season and honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions during the year
By simultaneously making their names in MLB history, Pat Murphy and Stephen Vogt not only affirmed their excellent coaching abilities but also became symbols of two different coaching styles – experience and youthfulness, courage and creativity – that combined to create a memorable season for American baseball
