Cowboys' $64 Million Star Could Be Cap Casualty in 2026

The Dallas Cowboys have been making aggressive moves lately — restructuring contracts, re-signing key players, and preparing for another Super Bowl push. But amid all the excitement, one big name could find himself on the chopping block sooner than expected: Kenny Clark, the team’s $64 million defensive tackle.

Clark, one of the most reliable interior linemen in the league, joined Dallas in a blockbuster trade intended to strengthen their defensive front. However, after recent contract extensions and looming cap pressures, analysts believe the Cowboys could be forced to make a tough financial decision before the 2026 season.

According to salary cap projections, Dallas will face a significant squeeze in the next two years. With Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons, and CeeDee Lamb all commanding top-tier deals, the Cowboys’ payroll could exceed the NFL’s expected cap by over $30 million — unless major restructuring or cuts occur.

That’s where Clark’s situation becomes complicated. His cap hit for 2025 is set to rise to nearly $21 million, and while his production remains solid, the Cowboys’ front office may decide that freeing up space is more valuable than keeping another high-cost veteran.

A team insider told SportsDay Dallas, “Kenny’s still playing at a high level, but this is business. The Cowboys love him — yet with so many stars to pay, someone has to go.”

Clark, a former Pro Bowler, has recorded consistent numbers in tackles and run stops this season, anchoring a defense that ranks top-10 in yards allowed. Still, his future is clouded by Dallas’ long-term financial priorities.

The Cowboys’ recent extensions for young players hint at a shift toward youth and flexibility — and Clark, despite his leadership and experience, could become a cap casualty in the next roster purge.

For now, the 28-year-old remains focused on the field. When asked about the rumors, Clark said simply: “I don’t worry about contracts. I just play football.”

Still, in the NFL’s salary-cap era, loyalty often comes second to balance sheets. And if Dallas continues its spending spree, Kenny Clark’s $64 million deal might be the next one to fall.
