Prince Andrew could be “destroyed” if a stash of over 100 secret emails in the Epstein files is released, according to reports.
Alleged messages between the Duke of York and Jeffrey Epstein are described as “embarrassing and incriminating”, according to multiple well-placed sources.
Andrew and Epstein shared a well-documented friendship for years prior to the financier’s arrest on serious sex trafficking charges. Andrew has consistently denied ever witnessing or suspecting Epstein of any criminal activity.
In his Newsnight interview five years ago, Andrew vowed to assist the investigation into Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. However, he has remained silent and maintains that he knew nothing of Epstein’s crimes despite their close association.
A source told the Mail on Sunday: “If you think what’s happened to Peter Mandelson is bad, then you have no idea what will happen when the Andrew emails are released. They are embarrassing and incriminating and he could be destroyed.”
Peter Mandelson was removed as UK ambassador to the US after files revealed he referred to Epstein as his “best pal.” A photograph also surfaced from a 2002 trip to Epstein’s private island showing Mandelson wearing only a bathrobe. He later stated that he “deeply regretted” any association with Epstein and claimed he was misled.
It is understood that there are “at least” 100 emails involving Andrew included in the Epstein files. Some of the messages were reportedly sent from an account linked to Pipex, one of the UK’s earliest commercial internet providers. The address appears alongside several phone numbers for Andrew found in Epstein’s “little black book,” according to the Mail on Sunday.
A second source added: “There are potentially incriminating emails between Andrew, Epstein, and Ghislaine Maxwell which haven’t come out yet. Andrew was in regular contact with Maxwell by email, and Epstein used email to coordinate trafficking of his victims. If I were Andrew, I’d be very worried.”
The alleged emails are currently among hundreds of thousands of documents being reviewed by the US Congress.
In recent weeks, thousands of records related to Epstein have been released to the public. At the beginning of September, the US House Oversight Committee published 33,295 pages of material handed over by the Justice Department following a subpoena from chairman James Comer.
Last week, the committee released Epstein’s 50th birthday book, which included a ten-page message from Mandelson. The 238-page scrapbook contained tributes, notes, and photographs. Most faces and identifying details in the images were heavily redacted in the public version.
A photograph of Prince Andrew with Virginia Giuffre and Ghislaine Maxwell has been included in multiple files. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence after being found guilty of sex trafficking in 2021. She has appealed to the United States Supreme Court.
David Boies, the lawyer who represented Virginia Giuffre, believes the unreleased set of emails could provide enough material to trigger a criminal investigation into Andrew.
After Giuffre — then known as Virginia Roberts — first accused Andrew of having sex with her when she was a minor, Andrew sent an email to Maxwell on January 3, 2015, stating: “Let me know when we can talk. Got some specific questions to ask you about Virginia Roberts.” Maxwell replied: “Have some info. Call me when you have a moment.”
Several other emails between Andrew and Epstein have been disclosed in legal proceedings over the years. In one message from February 2011, Andrew said: “Keep in close touch and we’ll play some more soon!!” Legal documents described it as being sent “by a member of the British Royal Family,” which was later reported to be Andrew.
Epstein died in prison in 2019. Maxwell remains incarcerated. The review of remaining classified material — including the emails allegedly linking Andrew directly to Epstein and Maxwell — is ongoing.
