House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries delivered a sharp warning about the state of the U.S. economy, declaring that consumer confidence has fallen to historic lows and blaming President Donald Trump’s economic leadership for what he described as growing instability and anxiety among working families.
In a forceful statement, Jeffries said the public mood reflects more than temporary frustration. “Consumer sentiment is at an all-time low,” he said. “The Trump economy is a disaster, and the American people know it.” His remarks come as new surveys and economic indicators suggest rising unease about inflation, housing costs, job security, and long-term financial stability.
Jeffries’ comments underscore a widening political battle over the economy as Democrats seek to frame Trump’s record as one that benefits the wealthy while leaving ordinary Americans behind. Republicans, meanwhile, argue that economic turbulence is exaggerated and that Trump’s policies have strengthened markets and business confidence.
At the center of the debate is consumer sentiment, a closely watched measure of how Americans feel about their personal finances and the broader economy.
