A shocking tragedy has struck Ukraine and Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, after his apartment back home was reduced to rubble in a brutal Russian attack.
On Instagram, Lunin shared his heartbreak:
“My wife, my mother, and my daughter were all there. They survived thanks to taking shelter in the bomb bunker. I can’t imagine what would have happened if they hadn’t gone down in time.”
Images of the ruins that were once his family’s home quickly spread online, sparking shock and sympathy among fans worldwide. Many supporters and teammates have since reached out, sending messages of comfort and solidarity to the 25-year-old goalkeeper.
The incident once again highlights the devastating toll of war, showing that not only innocent civilians but also international football stars are forced to face unimaginable losses.
Despite losing his apartment, Lunin expressed deep gratitude for what truly matters:
“All I need is for them to be safe—everything else can be rebuilt.”
Currently with Real Madrid, Lunin continues his footballing duties, but the shadow of worry for his homeland and loved ones weighs heavily on him.
