Astros are reportedly looking to trade another player not named Christian Walker image

It seems like most Houston Astros fans would be content with allowing Christian Walker to move on, which makes sense after his first season with the organization. When the Astros signed Walker, the hope was that he would continue being one of the best first basemen in baseball.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, and moving his contract could be a wise decision.

There are also other players the Astros could trade this winter, and according to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, the team is not only trying to move on from Walker but is also attempting to trade Jake Meyers.

“The Cardinals will move Brendan Donovan, the Giants will listen on Bryce Eldridge, the Padres are shopping Jake Cronenworth and Nick Pivetta, the Astros are trying to move Christian Walker and Jake Meyers, the Royals will move a starter for a power-hitting left fielder and the Red Sox will trade Jarren Duran if they get the right corner infielder or starting pitcher,”.

Meyers is a tough player to evaluate in some ways.

He’s shown flashes of being a solid big-league player, but overall hasn’t been great. He doesn’t offer much power, which limits his upside, but as a fourth outfielder, there are far worse options for teams looking to improve their depth.

Astros Exploring Trade Options for Another Player, With Christian Walker Off the Table

The Houston Astros are reportedly exploring trade options for a player other than Christian Walker, signaling that the team may be looking to adjust its roster while keeping its core intact. While speculation has swirled around potential departures in recent weeks, sources indicate that Walker is not currently on the trade block, leaving the Astros to explore other avenues to strengthen or balance the roster.

Houston’s front office has been proactive in previous offseasons, often making strategic moves to maintain competitiveness in the American League. The team’s willingness to consider trading other players suggests an ongoing effort to optimize depth, manage payroll, and potentially acquire assets that fit long-term plans.

Analysts note that targeting a player outside of Walker gives the Astros flexibility. Walker, a key contributor to Houston’s lineup, remains central to the team’s offensive strategy, and moving him could have created a significant gap in production. By focusing on other candidates, the Astros appear intent on maintaining offensive consistency while addressing other areas of need.

Ultimately, Astros fans can expect some movement in the coming weeks, but it seems clear that Christian Walker will continue to be a key figure in Houston’s lineup.
