Seattle Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto has become the second person in team history to be named Executive of the Year by Baseball America.
Dipoto’s win of the 2025 version of the award was announced Tuesday morning during MLB’s winter meetings, which is being held this week in Orlando, Fla.

The 57-year-old Dipoto joins former M’s general manager Pat Gillick, a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, as team members to win an Executive of the Year award, which was first given out in 1936. Gillick took the honors from Sporting News in 2001.
The Mariners finished 90-72 this year to win their first American League West division championship since Gillick’s 2001 team. That earned Seattle a bye through the wild card round of the playoffs, and the M’s would go on to beat the Detroit Tigers in five games in the AL Division Series and go to seven games against the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL Championship Series.
Dipoto joined the M’s as general manager toward the end of the 2015 season and was promoted to president of baseball operations in 2021. A former major league pitcher, he previously was GM for the Los Angeles Angels from 2011-15. He also served as interim GM for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010 and had stints in the front offices for the Colorado Rockies and Boston Red Sox.
Under Dipoto, the Mariners have built a core of homegrown players that includes All-Stars Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodríguez, Logan Gilbert, Bryan Woo and George Kirby. There have also been trades along the way to acquire other key members of the core including shortstop J.P. Crawford and All-Star closer Andrés Muñoz.
In 2025, the Mariners made midseason trades with Arizona for All-Star infielders Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suárez that helped propel them to a 33-20 record over the final two months of the regular season to surpass the Houston Astros and win the division.
Seattle has also built an impressive player development system under Dipoto. The Mariners entered 2025 ranked as Baseball America’s No. 5 farm among MLB organizations, and they currently have the most players ranked on Baseball America’s top 100 prospects list with eight, led by shortstop Colt Emerson (No. 12) and pitcher Cade Anderson (No. 29).
MLB has its own version of the Executive of the Year award, which began in 2018. That was won last month by Milwaukee Brewers president of baseball operations and general manager Matt Arnold for the second straight year.
