MLB once again exploded on social media when Sportskeeda launched the “Game 7 Starter” question – who would you trust when the entire season is on the line? And four names shook the baseball world: Clayton Kershaw (Dodgers), John Smoltz (Braves), Andy Pettitte (Yankees) and Roger Clemens (Red Sox).
As soon as the image was posted, more than 2,000 interactions, hundreds of comments and a fierce battle between fans broke out. Dodgers fans affirmed “Kershaw is the choice of the heart”, while Yankees loyalists declared “Pettitte was born to win Game 7”.
Smoltz is hailed as a “postseason monster” who shines in the most difficult moments, while Clemens – a symbol of strength and intensity – makes many believe that “he fears no one on the mound.”
From statistics to emotions, the debate is endless. Kershaw has 3 Cy Young titles and 1 MVP title, but is criticized for his ups and downs in the postseason. Smoltz – a member of the Hall of Fame – owns a 2.67 ERA in the playoffs. Pettitte holds a record of 19 postseason victories – a number no one in MLB history has reached. As for Clemens, 7 Cy Young titles, 354 wins – a controversial monument.
ESPN analysts commented: “If only considering decisive moments, Pettitte and Smoltz are probably the two most trustworthy names. But in terms of pure class, no one surpasses Clemens and Kershaw.”
Dodgers fans responded: “Kershaw has evolved. He’s not the same guy who collapsed in the past – he’s a modern warrior.”
Yankees fans laughed: “Pettitte doesn’t need a Cy Young. He just needs to win.”
While the debate has never ended, the question touches on the core of baseball: belief, character, and legacy. Game 7 is more than just a game – it’s where true legends are etched.
And perhaps, in the minds of millions of fans, each name is worthy… it just depends on which you believe more: statistics or heart.
