As the MLB free agency market is exploding, Alex Bregman’s name is emerging as a “golden bait” that every team has to watch — and recently, the news that Bregman is considering joining the Chicago Cubs has left fans and analysts holding their breath.
A source from SI’s Insider section said: after officially becoming a free agent, Bregman has not closed the door on his future — he is leaving open the possibility of joining the Cubs, a team looking to fill the wound left by Kyle Tucker.
The Cubs have about $50–60 million in free agency to spend in 2025, and it’s entirely possible they could use some of it to sign a hitter of Bregman’s caliber.
Bregman, a former Astros and Red Sox star, has a solid base of players: a powerful hitter, a wealth of experience, and a commanding presence. With the third base position vacant after the trade, he could immediately become a key member of the Cubs’ first base, filling the void offensively and stabilizing the locker room.
Not only that, some Cubs players, like Nicky Lopez, have publicly supported Bregman’s arrival, arguing that he would be the perfect “spice” for the clubhouse, both in terms of skill and culture.
However, while the Bregman–Cubs combination is widely discussed, the reality is that there are many challenges ahead.
