Vesia and his wife shared on Instagram:
“Our little angel, we love you forever & you’re with us always … There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
Earlier, the Dodgers announced that Vesia would be taking a leave of absence due to a “deeply personal family matter.”
His absence was explained as a way for him to be with his wife during this difficult time.
The solidarity among the players was evident: in Game 3 of the World Series, several Dodgers pitchers wrote the number 51 — Vesia’s jersey number — on their hats as a tribute.
In addition, Blue Jays players also joined in the gesture, showing sympathy that transcended rival lines.
Vesia and Kayla did not forget to express their gratitude to the team and fans: they thanked the Dodgers, the Blue Jays, MLB fans, and the medical staff at Cedars-Sinai, where Sterling was treated.
“Our baseball family showed up for us … We have seen ALL your messages, comments, and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.”

In the 2025 season, Vesia was an important part of the Dodgers bullpen, with a 3.02 ERA in 68 appearances.
His contract was also kept by the team: the Dodgers exercised their option for the 2026 season.
On a personal level, Vesia will have to deal with the pain of losing a child while maintaining a demanding MLB career.
Sterling Sol Vesia’s passing was a huge shock not only to the Vesia family but to the entire baseball community. While the Dodgers won the championship, joy was mixed with deep sadness. And Vesia’s message to fans reminded everyone: life, family and humanity are still bigger than any trophy.
