Miami – In an emotional announcement, the family of Chicago Cubs legend Andre Dawson shared that he is battling a serious illness. In light of his current health situation, Dawson expressed his feelings in a brief conversation with family and close friends.
“I had a great time on the field, but now I feel the fragility of life,” Dawson shared, his voice choking up. “Ryne (Sandberg) has always been my brother, my teammate. He’s gone too soon, but I believe we’ll see each other again.”

Dawson and Sandberg were an inseparable duo for the Cubs in the 1980s and 1990s. They went through many ups and downs together, from victories to defeats, and always supported each other both on and off the field.
Before his death, Sandberg shared fond memories of Dawson in a recent interview:
“Andre was my best friend. We went through so much together, through so much joy. I am forever grateful to have him in my life.”

Dawson, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2010, now runs a funeral home in Miami. He underwent surgery for prostate cancer in 2012 and recovered. However, his health has recently declined, causing concern among his fans and friends.
While Dawson is battling the illness, fans and the sports community have sent him well wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery. Many have paid tribute to Dawson and Sandberg, two Chicago Cubs legends, and hope they will be reunited soon.
