The eyes of baseball are on Toronto. According to Yahoo Sports, ESPN and MLB Network, the Toronto Blue Jays crushed the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 in Game 5 of the 2025 World Series, taking a 3-2 lead in the series – one win away from their first championship since 1993.
At the heart of this historic victory was young pitcher Trey Yesavage, who MLB.com described as “unemotional and cold as steel” as he recorded 12 strikeouts and allowed only one run to the Dodgers in 7 innings. ESPN Stats & Info noted: it was the highest strikeout performance by a Blue Jays pitcher in the World Series since Dave Stieb in 1992.

“Yesavage didn’t just throw—he burned,” ESPN reporter Jeff Passan commented.
On the offensive front, The Athletic described the Blue Jays as “exploding like an autumn storm.” Vladimir Guerrero Jr. opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the second inning, while Bo Bichette and Daulton Varsho continued to put constant pressure on the Dodgers defense with pinpoint doubles.
For the Dodgers, the defeat was called a “paralyzing night” by the Los Angeles Times, as the trio of Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman had just two hits in 12 innings. Manager Dave Roberts admitted:
“We were completely outclassed. The Jays played like it was the only game of their lives.”

The game also produced an atmosphere that Sports Illustrated described as “the craziest at Rogers Centre since 2015.” Tens of thousands of blue-clad spectators cheered as the Jays’ bullpen closed the game with Jordan Romano’s final strikeout, turning Thursday night into a national celebration.
Now, CBS Sports says: “The Blue Jays are on the brink of heaven. If they win Game 6 in Los Angeles, their first championship in 32 years will return to Canada.”
Game 6 will take place Saturday at Dodger Stadium, where Kevin Gausman is expected to close out the series while the Dodgers count on Walker Buehler to keep their hopes alive.

If Toronto pulls off the feat, as Yahoo Sports concludes, “it will not just be a team victory—it will be a victory for a country that has waited three decades to chant ‘We The North’ in the middle of a World Series.”
