St. Louis, Missouri – Shortly after being named a 2025 Roberto Clemente Award nominee, St. Louis Cardinals star Brendan Donovan turned his honor into a practical and inspiring act: building mini libraries for children in St. Louis elementary schools, where they can read books while feeling the spirit of baseball in every corner of their learning.

This special library corner is decorated with posters, balls, gloves, and images of Donovan, creating a space that is both lively and close to the children’s passion for baseball. Colorful bookshelves contain a variety of books from novels, science to comics, providing opportunities to learn and explore the vast world beyond the field.

Donovan shared: “Being nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award is a great honor, but what makes me happiest is being able to share that joy with children. I want them to see that, just like on the football field, any dream can come true if they dare to try and persevere.”

The most touching highlight was the handwritten letters that the students sent back to Donovan. Each sentence was simple but full of gratitude: from thanks for the library full of books, to dreams of becoming a baseball player, a scientist or a writer. Donovan took the time to read each letter and sent back personal encouragement, leaving many teachers and parents unable to hide their emotions. One 4th grader wrote: “You gave us a place to dream. I want to be a player like you and I will also read a lot of books to achieve that.”

The image of Donovan bending down to talk to the children, signing books and balls, along with the bright smiles of the children, spread a warm feeling to the community. This initiative not only encourages children to read but also nurtures their dreams, confidence and joy of learning.

With this action, Brendan Donovan once again proves that talent on the field is only a part, but the positive impact on the community is the lasting thing. The mini libraries, simple but touching handwritten letters, and the happy moments of children are proving that baseball and knowledge can create magic together.

Donovan ended the day with a simple but profound message: “Always nurture your dreams, read books and play ball. Every dream, no matter how small, deserves to shine.”
