As the 2025 season comes to a close, a shocking yet emotional news has just ignited the Cardinals fan community: Édgar Rentería, Al Hrabosky, and the late GM Walt Jocketty have been officially elected to the Cardinals Hall of Fame — a prestigious honor that every legend in the team’s history aspires to.
Today, the Cardinals sent out an official statement: the ceremony to welcome the new inductees will take place at Ballpark Village during Hall of Fame Weekend, on September 6, 2025.
After an eight-week voting process, Cardinals fans have chosen Édgar Rentería as the recipient of the full faith — becoming a modern-day inductee according to the fans’ vote. Rentería was not only known for his offensive prowess, but also for his rarity: he is the only player in Cardinals history to win both the Silver Slugger and the Gold Glove in the same season — twice.

During his six seasons with St. Louis (1999–2004), he racked up dozens of major league hits, impressive numbers, and three All-Star nods. This achievement transformed him from a star to a legend — and brought pride to millions of Cardinals fans.
With his distinctive style, Fu-Manchu-style hair, and fearsome fastball, Al Hrabosky was a terror to any hitter who dared step up to the plate. Selected by the “Red Ribbon Committee” to receive the Veteran Player honor, Hrabosky is one of the most feared closers in Cardinals history.
With 182 shutouts and a top-five Cy Young vote, Hrabosky not only made important saves but also brought back memories of a glorious era, making many fans tear up when they heard the news that he was about to be honored.

Not only a player, this year’s Cardinals Hall of Fame also honors an excellent manager: Walt Jocketty. With 13 years as GM (1994–2007), he was the one who reshaped the team — from roster structure to talent development strategy, helping the Cardinals reap glory again.
Under Jocketty, the team won many titles, reached the postseason many times, and built a foundation for the next generation of players. His honor is not only a personal reward, but also a recognition of the vision and decisions that shaped the history of an entire organization.
The additions to the Hall of Fame are not just a tribute, but also a milestone in Cardinals history — a reminder that, despite the passing of time, great contributions live on. Fans, former players, and MLB fans everywhere are excited, not just by the emotion, but by the belief in the future: a Cardinals built on legacy, full of character, full of pride.

Many believe that this honor will inspire young players, helping them understand that legend is not just about skill, but also about dedication, discipline, and love for the jersey.
In a statement, Cardinals President and CEO Bill DeWitt Jr. said:
“We are extremely proud of this year’s selections. Thank you to the fans who voted — and congratulations to Édgar, Al, and to the memory of Walt. Team history was rewritten today.”
