St. Louis, MO – Sports are sometimes tougher than we think. St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn will be out early in the 2025 season due to a right knee meniscus injury. The news was confirmed by head coach Oliver Marmol following an 8-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on September 12.
“It breaks our hearts to make this announcement,” Marmol said. “Masyn is an integral part of our team, both physically and mentally. But his health comes first. We will be with him every step of the way.”
Winn, 24, had a stellar season before the injury: 129 games, a .253 batting average, nine home runs and 51 RBIs, and a .994 fielding percentage — leading the shortstop position. Cardinals fans have seen him throw himself onto the field with great fighting spirit, and now they have to watch the heart of the team temporarily leave the field.
In his latest share, Winn expressed:
“I will not give up. Surgery is the next step, and I will come back stronger next season. The support of my teammates and fans is my biggest motivation.”
Winn’s absence is a shock to the Cardinals with 14 important games left in the season. But it is in this difficult moment that the spirit of the team and fans becomes even more precious. Fans have been showing their support on social media, sending words of encouragement and reminding everyone that “Masyn is never alone.”
The Cardinals’ next game is against the Milwaukee Brewers on September 13, and then host the Cincinnati Reds on September 15. This is a chance for those still on the field to show their mettle and pay tribute to Winn’s fighting spirit.
The injury is not only a test of the player’s body, but also a lesson in perseverance, courage and the power of teamwork. Masyn Winn will return, but this moment – where the fans and the team pay tribute to him – will forever be etched in the memories of everyone who loves the Cardinals.
