CHICAGO — A surprise announcement from Chicago Cubs owner Thomas S. Ricketts has sent shockwaves through the baseball fan community: Starting with the upcoming home series, tickets to Wrigley Field will be sold for just $10.
The move is being described as a “social coup” – opening the doors of the Cubs’ historic stadium to thousands of low-income families who have long dreamed of experiencing an MLB game live.
“Ballroom is not just for the few. It’s a sport about community, about fun and family memories. Wrigley Field should be a place where everyone has the opportunity to come in, regardless of economic status,” Ricketts said in a press conference this morning.
The new ticket pricing policy is designed to create a level playing field, bringing football closer to those who have been left out by high ticket prices. Many Chicago community organizations immediately expressed their support, calling the move “beyond sports.”
