CHICAGO – In a moment that has been awaited all season, Chicago Cubs star DansbySwanson revealed emotional and meaningful plans for his upcoming child, revealing a baby name that has left Chicago baseball and women’s soccer fans in awe.
In May 2025, MallorySwanson—a star for the Chicago Red Stars and the U.S. women’s national team—and Dansby announced that they were expecting their first child.

However, the couple has so far kept the baby’s name and birth date secret from their public announcement… until now.
But recently, according to close sources and shared privately, Dansby confirmed that his little “warrior” will be named Wills“Wrigley”Swanson – a name that immediately reminds him of the Cubs’ legendary home field: Wrigley Field. When asked about the reason for choosing this name, Dansby did not hesitate: “I want my child to grow up with the will to fight, with the love for the Cubs that is in my blood. Just like I stood at Wrigley Field, where the fans shouted ‘GoCubsGo’, I want my child to know that when he puts on a Cubs jersey, he is not just a player – he is a warrior, part of the family.”
The sentence rang out like an oath: “I will teach my child to fight like I once threw at Wrigley… to fight until my last breath for the Cubs.” At that moment, Dansby’s eyes flashed with determination: age, pressure, career – none of it could stop her desire to pass that spirit on to the next generation.

Mallory – an icon of women’s soccer, an Olympic silver medalist and former national team player – also shared that she wanted her child to understand “the value of team, of sacrifice, and of team love” from a young age. “We’re not just having a child – we’re starting a tradition,” she said. “And the name Wrigley is a reminder: ‘This is where Dad fought, and this is where you’ll learn that inspiration.’”
The announcement immediately caused a stir in the Cubs community and among the couple’s fans. One fan wrote: “If the name is real – this isn’t just a Dansby child – this is the future symbol of the Cubs!” Another commented: “Sounds like a father-to-son relationship, like the Cubs tradition lives on.”
On the field, Dansby is still feeling the pressure of transition – he has signed a big contract with the Cubs and is aiming to bring a title to the city of Chicago. But off the field, he is preparing for a bigger role: as a father, as a hero for his child to look up to. “When we had this baby,” he said, “I knew I wasn’t going to fight for myself anymore – I was going to fight for my family, for the team, for the future.”

And the name “Wrigley” – both a tribute and a challenge – is becoming a symbol: a symbol of love, of struggle, and of a constant flow between the Cubs’ past, present, and future. In a sense: this baby wasn’t just born – it was launched into being a true Cub.
The Swanson family’s new journey has begun — and Cubs fans are standing behind him, ready for the moment when “Wrigley Swanson” enters the world… and steps onto the field with a mighty Cubs heart.
