PHILADELPHIA, PA — In an emotional and heartfelt statement, Philadelphia Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski expressed his desire to keep Kyle Schwarber with the team long-term. Schwarber, who will become a free agent after this season, has proven to be an integral part of the Phillies’ roster.
“We love Kyle,” Dombrowski said. “He is a true winner, a leader in the locker room and a great player. We hope he continues to be a part of this organization for many years to come.”
Schwarber joined the Phillies in 2022 on a four-year, $79 million contract and has quickly become one of the team’s most beloved players. In the 2025 season, he hit 50 home runs, becoming only the second player in Phillies history to reach that milestone after Ryan Howard.
Although the team offered Schwarber a contract extension, he chose to wait, a decision Dombrowski said was wise. Schwarber expressed appreciation for the team’s passion and support, emphasizing the relationship between the two but avoiding making any firm predictions about his future.
Dombrowski acknowledged that keeping Schwarber on the team would not be easy, especially with the team also facing the possibility of losing other free agents like J.T. Realmuto and Ranger Suárez. However, he insisted that Schwarber is an important part of the team and would be warmly welcomed if he decided to stay.
With his impressive performance and great influence in the locker room, Schwarber is not only a key player on the field but also a symbol of the fighting spirit and unity of the Phillies. Keeping him on the team will be an important step in maintaining and developing a strong Phillies roster in the future.
