The Guardians organization has confirmed that Juan Brito — a switch‑hitting second‑base prospect — has recovered sufficiently from a left‑hamstring surgery to resume baseball activities. According to a post from the team via Guardians Prospective, Brito “received medical clearance … and will begin practicing with his LIDOM club Toros del Este next week.”

Brito, once viewed as a strong candidate for Cleveland’s middle‑infield depth, had endured a frustrating 2025 campaign beset by injuries. After undergoing thumb surgery in April to repair a torn ligament, he attempted a mid‑season comeback but later suffered a hamstring issue which ultimately required another operation.
Earlier in the year, Brito had shown promise in Triple‑A with the Columbus Clippers, slashing .256 with three home runs and 15 RBIs over 24 appearances — enough to keep fans and front‑office evaluators hopeful about his upside.

With the “all‑clear” in hand, Brito’s winter‑league stint is likely to be a key period for him. It offers a chance to re‑sharpen his timing, regain game‑condition, and show readiness to compete — not just for development sake, but for a serious shot at the Guardians’ major‑league roster.
Still, projection remains difficult. The Guardians’ infield depth is crowded: Brito must contend with roster‑mates such as Brayan Rocchio, Gabriel Arias, Angel Martinez, Daniel Schneemann and top prospect Travis Bazzana for limited middle‑infield opportunities.
That said, this latest update represents a major step forward for Brito — and for a Guardians team that needs his bat and versatility. If he performs well in winter ball and remains healthy, he could emerge as a sleeper candidate for the Opening Day roster next spring.
