BREAKING: GUARDIANS IMMORTALIZED THE POWERFUL STORIES BEHIND THE STATUES AT PROGRESSIVE FIELD.C1

Progressive Field has long been celebrated not only as the home of Cleveland baseball but also as a landmark where the franchise’s greatest figures are permanently enshrined. Positioned around the ballpark — from the bustling entrance on East Ninth Street to the peaceful walkways of Heritage Park — five bronze statues pay tribute to the athletes and pioneers who shaped the Guardians’ identity across generations.

Unveiled in 1994, the statue of Bob Feller became the first monument at the newly opened ballpark. Captured mid-wind-up, with his left leg lifted and arm cocked back, the sculpture reflects the explosive energy that defined Feller’s legendary career. “Rapid Robert” still holds franchise records in wins, strikeouts, innings pitched, and Opening Day starts — a testament to a lifetime of dominance.

Fans visiting Heritage Park instantly recognize the statue of Jim Thome, dedicated in 2014. Depicted pointing his bat outward before a pitch — a signature pose that became one of baseball’s most iconic images — Thome represents a power-hitting era that electrified Cleveland. His home runs and clutch performances helped lead the club through one of its most successful stretches in modern history.

The statue of Larry Doby, unveiled in 2015 along Larry Doby Way, memorializes one of the most important figures in American sports history. As the first Black player in the American League, Doby shattered racial barriers just months after Jackie Robinson’s debut. Sculpted with bat in hand and eyes forward, the monument symbolizes his courage, resilience, and lasting influence on the game.

In 2017, Progressive Field added a statue of Frank Robinson—the Hall of Famer who became Major League Baseball’s first Black manager while serving with Cleveland. Portrayed holding a lineup card, Robinson’s statue celebrates not only his brilliance as a player but also his groundbreaking leadership. His achievements paved the way for future generations both on and off the field.

Also added in 2017, the statue of Lou Boudreau captures the Hall of Fame shortstop and manager at the peak of his athletic precision. Boudreau led Cleveland to its 1948 World Series championship and remains one of the most influential figures in franchise history. His monument stands as a tribute to excellence, discipline, and championship legacy.

Together, these statues transform Progressive Field into an open-air museum, offering fans a chance to connect with the stories that define Cleveland baseball. Whether celebrating pioneers, champions, or historical milestones, each monument serves as a reminder that the Guardians’ identity is built on more than wins — it is built on generations of trailblazers whose spirit continues to inspire.
