The 2025 MLB season ended with one of the most thrilling games of the decade, as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 after 11 innings in Game 7. This victory not only brought the Dodgers to the championship, but also marked the first time in 25 years that a team has successfully defended the World Series championship, since the Yankees dynasty in the late 90s.

Entering the series, Toronto was full of confidence with youth and explosive form. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and the Blue Jays’ young players created an emotional journey, making fans believe that this could be the year they repeat the historic victory of 1993. On the opposite side, the Dodgers appeared with the familiar image of a team with depth, experience and character, possessing factors that can turn the game at any time like Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman or Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
This year’s World Series became a stage of unforgettable moments. Toronto opened with an overwhelming 11-4 victory in Game 1, as a declaration that they were not afraid of the defending champions. However, the Dodgers immediately responded in Game 2 with a devastating performance from Yamamoto, who threw a near-perfect pitch and won 5-1. The third game became legendary, lasting 18 innings and ending with a Freddie Freeman walk-off home run that gave the Dodgers the lead in both score and spirit.
Toronto refused to back down. They won two straight in Los Angeles, including a 12-strikeout performance from Trey Yesavage in Game 5. As the Blue Jays led 3-2 and returned to Toronto, many believed a championship was within reach.
But the Dodgers showed why they are the most resilient team in MLB right now. Yamamoto took the field in Game 6 with no room for error. He pitched seven scoreless innings and secured the victory that brought the Series back to square one. Outstanding defense from Kiké Hernández and Miguel Rojas kept the Dodgers alive through some tight situations.
Game 7 started in a way no one expected. Ohtani, who had just played in the previous game, was brought in. But he was punished immediately when Bo Bichette hit a three-run home run to put Toronto ahead. The Dodgers gradually got the game back on track, cutting the score to 3-1 and then 4-2. In the eighth, Max Muncy sparked hope with a deep home run to right field. And in the ninth, Miguel Rojas became the surprise hero with a home run to tie the game and send the final game into extra innings.
At the crucial moment, Yamamoto continued to appear as a pillar of spirit. He faced a pressure situation with the Blue Jays having three men on base but still escaped, keeping the score the same, giving the Dodgers a chance to tie the game.

The fateful moment came in the 11th when Will Smith hit a home run to put the Dodgers ahead. In the bottom half of the inning, Mookie Betts sealed the victory with a cool double-play, extinguishing any last hope for Toronto.
The Dodgers walked onto the podium feeling incredibly proud. Not only had they defeated a worthy opponent, but they had also continued to write history by winning their second consecutive World Series. In a season filled with twists and turns, the Los Angeles team proved that character, depth and spirit are still the foundations of true champions.
