SEATTLE — A day to remember in Mariners history. Cal Raleigh – affectionately known as “Big Dumper” by fans – was honored by the MLB Players Association (MLBPA) with two of the most prestigious awards of the year: Player of the Year and American League Outstanding Player.
This is the first time in history that a Seattle Mariners player has been chosen by his MLB peers as the best player. A milestone, a declaration, and a new beginning for the port city that is reliving its championship dream.

Raleigh had the “biggest” 2025 season for a catcher in the 21st century: 60+ home runs, 125 RBIs, slugging percentage over 1.000.
Led the Mariners to their first AL West title since 2001.
Became the first switch-hitting catcher in MLB history to hit 60 HR in a season.
“Cal Raleigh didn’t just hit the ball, he woke up a generation.”
From a boy who fought for his starting spot, Raleigh now stands alongside legends like Ken Griffey Jr., Mickey Mantle, and Salvador Perez in the pantheon of great power hitters.
Immediately after the results were announced, the Mariners’ official account wrote:
“Cal has won two MLB player-voted awards. An honor Seattle has never had.”

Captain Julio Rodríguez emotionally shared:
“He deserves it all. Cal is not just a catcher – he is the heart of this team.”
Meanwhile, the US media likened Raleigh to “the soul of Seattle’s rebirth”, a man who transformed the Mariners locker room into a place full of faith and laughter.
“This award reflects the respect from the entire MLB player world, something that cannot be bought with money or media.”
And it’s hard to believe that just a few years ago, Raleigh was considered a “replacement catcher” who needed to improve his defensive ability. Now, he redefines the modern catcher role – both a wall protecting home plate and the most terrifying offensive machine in the league.
The event of Raleigh’s victory also created a fever of pride throughout Seattle. “BIG DUMPER 2025” shirts sold out in just a few hours. Thousands of fans poured into the T-Mobile Park area, carrying banners, slogans and even tears.

One older fan told KOMO News:
“We’ve seen Griffey, Ichiro… but Cal is something else. He represents the resilience of Seattle – always doubted, but never giving up.”
Now, the Mariners have a new symbol, someone who can lead them to the “spring” of titles.
Raleigh said at a press conference:
“I didn’t do this alone. Seattle believed in me, and I want to bring this trophy back to them.”
When he said that, the crowd burst into tears. The lights, the green flag, the chants of “Let’s Go Mariners!” harmonized into a joyous song.
Cal Raleigh has gone from being a regular catcher to the brightest star in baseball’s sky in 2025.
It’s not just about the title – it’s about a city’s dream built on sweat, smiles, and unwavering faith.
“Thank you, Seattle,” Raleigh said softly. “We’re just getting started…”
