KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV5) — Chiefs fans packed the parking lot of Arrowhead Stadium on Monday ahead of the team’s prime-time home game against the Washington Commanders.
Some fans arrived early Monday morning, while others came Sunday night to claim their spot in line before the gates opened.
The fans were pumped and excited, saying they wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
“I love the energy, I love the vibe, everything about it is just incredible,” said Tony Harding.
“You’ve got to come experience this before the game,” said Zachary Weigelt, who was rocking a Patrick Mahomes mask.
“We’re here for every game, we don’t miss,” said Makayla Naudet.
Some fans were even surprised by a special guest: none other than Travis Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce.
He interacted with fans, signed a few jerseys, and joined in on chants.
“Hey, hey, hey, how ‘bout those Chiefs?” he chanted. He even gave KCTV5 a shoutout!
Early arrivals and traditions
Multiple fans said tailgating is a tradition and a part of being in Chiefs Kingdom.
Some supporters said they tailgate before entering the stadium gates and then continue tailgating in the parking lot.
“So, we have our tailgate before we get into the gates and then of course our tailgate at the parking lot,” said Naudet, “We get here very, very early. I think this morning we left at 8:30 a.m.”
Fan engagement and community
One fan said his favorite part of tailgating was being able to walk around and interact with different groups, possibly making a difference in their day.
“For me, I figured out I could come out here and affect the days of people that haven’t been here often,” said Taylor Garrison, “and honestly, I never expected to be a grown man with a makeup bag and a ring hat, but we landed here, and I’m happy with it.”
Game predictions
Fans even offered various predictions for the game’s outcome. One supporter predicted a 38-20 Chiefs victory, while another simply expected a win.
“It’s a Monday night game, and Pat loves being under the lights. So, I think we’re going to be really good,” said Garrison.
