Philadelphia – After the Philadelphia Phillies ended the 2025 season with a disappointing record, failing to advance deep into the postseason, Jimmy Rollins – the great legend of the team and now a special advisor – gave an emotional speech in the locker room, considered to be a “revival fire” for the entire team’s spirit.
Rollins, who won the 2007 NL MVP title and was the leader of the 2008 World Series championship squad, appeared at the end-of-season internal meeting at Citizens Bank Park and left a moment that left the entire players silent.
“You think this season is a failure? No. This is a beginning. Losing doesn’t kill a team – it makes them grow. You’re going to be hurt, you’re going to be disappointed, but these are the moments that will teach you how to really win.”
According to a reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer, Rollins was brought in as a motivational speaker after the Phillies suffered a season-ending losing streak that cost them a wildcard spot. Players including Bryce Harper, Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber were all in attendance and were said to be “really emotional” after the legendary captain’s speech.

Not just about failure, Rollins spoke about the city’s identity and the spirit of the team:
“Philadelphia doesn’t need perfect guys. This city needs guys who fall and get back up, guys who can take the boos and still go out there and still fight. Because that’s the DNA of the Phillies — resilient, persistent, never give up.”
According to ESPN, a video of Rollins’ speech went viral on social media, attracting more than 1.5 million views in 24 hours. Thousands of fans left emotional comments:
“Rollins once again proves why he will always be the soul of the Phillies.”
“Nobody talks about failure or faith better than him.”

Rollins continued to emphasize the philosophy he has pursued throughout his career:
“Failure is not a stain. It is a foundation. No one builds victory without failing. Glory is not born from luck – it is forged from sleepless nights and heartbreaking losses.”
These words are believed to be aimed at the younger generation of Phillies players – who are under great pressure from the media and fans after an inconsistent season.
An inside source said Bryson Stott and Brandon Marsh “were almost in tears” when they heard Rollins speak. Bryce Harper was noted as the first to stand up and shake his hand and thank him.

Jimmy Rollins played for Philadelphia from 2000 to 2014, played more than 2,000 games, won four Gold Gloves, three All-Star awards, and was considered the “unofficial captain” during the Phillies’ golden age.
After retiring, he returned to the team as a player advisor and spirit ambassador, regularly meeting with rookies and sharing his experiences of character, perseverance, and love with the fans.
“Tomorrow, when you put on this jersey, remember: we’re not just playing for titles, we’re playing for the people who sit in the stands when it rains, who still believe when we lose. That’s what makes the Phillies different.”
The Phillies’ 2025 season ended in disappointment, but Jimmy Rollins’ speech brought back something that statistics can’t measure – spirit and faith.
As he himself said:“Title will come back. But character – if lost – will never come back. And I see it here, it’s still there.”
Philadelphia may not have won today. But behind those words, the whole city believes – it’s only a matter of time before they return to the top.
