DALLAS, TX — The sports world was shaken late Sunday after police confirmed the death of Marcus Kenner, a 24-year-old defensive end for the Texas Stallions, following a dramatic overnight search on the Dallas North Tollway.

According to an official report, state officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation around midnight near Keller Springs Boulevard. When the driver refused to pull over, a brief pursuit began but ended when officers lost sight of the car. A short time later, the vehicle was found abandoned on a service road.
Authorities launched an air-and-ground search, supported by local police, eventually locating the driver — identified as Kenner — who had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Emergency responders at the scene confirmed he was deceased.
Sources close to the investigation told reporters that officers were alerted after Kenner’s girlfriend contacted authorities, worried about a troubling text message she had received earlier that evening. Police dispatch audio referenced concerns that the player “was armed and in emotional distress.”
Team officials released a brief statement early Monday morning:
“We are heartbroken by the loss of Marcus. He was a beloved teammate, a passionate competitor, and a kind soul who touched everyone in our organization. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this devastating time.”
The National Football League extended condolences and said grief counselors would be made available to the team.
Fans flooded social media with messages of disbelief and grief, many urging greater mental-health support for athletes under extreme pressure.
