Toronto, Canada – Anger has erupted in the Canadian baseball community after Dan O’Toole, one of the country’s most prominent sports figures, publicly criticized Major League Baseball (MLB) for its dismissive coverage of the Toronto Blue Jays – the team currently leading the AL East and the first team to reach 90 wins this season.

“We are no longer underdogs. We are championship contenders, and we have proven it with every game, every swing, every catch. So why is the American media still taking us for granted?” – O’Toole said in his latest broadcast, a quote that immediately went viral on Canadian social media.

What to Know About Dan O'Toole

Blue Jays: From Doubtful to New AL Power

Toronto has had a difficult journey, with long-term injuries to key players but still resilient to overcome. Possessing an explosive offense, a solid defense, and the brilliance of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at MVP level, the Blue Jays have overcome all skepticism, coming back to dominate the rankings.

However, according to O’Toole, instead of acknowledging that strength, most of the American media only “drop by” when there is a special event, or ask the cliché question: “What makes Toronto suddenly come back?” – as if this is a miracle and not the result of strategy and constant effort.

Anger from the stands

Analyzing with O’Toole, journalist Keegan Matheson warned: “This hurts Canadian fans. We are not an exception to MLB, we are part of it.”

The proof of that pride is the average attendance of 34,647 at Rogers Centre – one of the highest in the league. They not only come to cheer, but also turn the ballpark into a green fortress, where opponents are always swallowed by the passionate atmosphere.

Conflict with Orioles explodes

Tensions increased after the dramatic series against the Baltimore Orioles, when commentator Brian Roberts mocked the “baseball IQ” of Toronto fans. The incident forced Roberts to speak up, while Blue Jays players, from Ernie Clement to Isiah Kiner-Falefa, took turns defending their fans. “They understand baseball more than many people think. They deserve respect,” Clement emphasized.

Journey to October

Now, with the playoffs approaching, the Blue Jays no longer want to be called “dark horses”. They yearn to be seen for what they are – a real power, ready to make history. “This is not a random turn,” O’Toole asserted. “This is a long journey, a collective sweat, blood, and tears. Toronto deserves respect.”

A proud Canada

The Blue Jays have long been more than just a team – they are a symbol of the Canadian spirit on the North American sports map. And with their 2025 campaign in full swing, O’Toole’s outrage reflects the general mood: Toronto no longer wants to live in the shadow of American teams, but is ready to write its own new chapter in MLB history.

With 90 wins under its belt, the only question left is: How long before MLB admits that the Blue Jays are more than just a surprise – but an empire on the rise?
