With the 2025–26 offseason heating up, the Red Sox — who are coming off a solid season — are expected to sign Bregman, who is considered an “offensive & defensive backbone” despite being 32 years old. With an .821 OPS, 18 home runs, and 62 RBIs in 2025, Bregman remains a standout in Boston.
Alex Bregman enjoyed great success with the Houston Astros, earning two All-Star selections and posting a ~.970 OPS in his prime.
Despite his dip in form over the past few years, his 2025 season in Boston has shown that Bregman still has plenty of ammunition: an .821 OPS, 18 HR, 62 RBI — enough numbers to make the Red Sox see him as a worthy long-term investment.
Some analysts are predicting Bregman will sign a five-year, $155 million contract — a top-tier figure for a current 3B, and enough to suggest the Red Sox are willing to “spend big” to retain this star.
In a fierce league like the AL East, with competition from the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and others, the Red Sox know they need a stable element, both offensively and defensively — and Bregman is a near-perfect fit.

It’s not just the hitting or the numbers: Bregman is also considered a “leadership breath” in the locker room. According to one Boston rookie, he is “more of a coach than a teammate” — often spending time mentoring and analyzing video for young players.
His presence helps the team maintain morale, while improving the quality of play from the main players to the “second team”.
Of course, the big contract means a lot of pressure on Bregman and the Red Sox. He is 32 years old — not young anymore, and his performance at the end of the 2025 season has slowed down at times; especially when he was injured and lost form.
In addition, the high salary could affect the ability to recruit more talent or manage the team’s finances.
Some analysts have suggested a “Plan B”: if Bregman cannot stay, the Red Sox can turn to other hitters, even from Japan, or hunt for free agents at a lower price.
If the deal goes through, the Red Sox will not only retain a well-rounded player — they will also send a strong message: “We are determined to get back to the top.” With Bregman in place, Boston will have stability, experience, and the ability to lead a young team — all the ingredients needed to compete in the AL East and make the playoffs.
As for Bregman — five years, $155 million is a confirmation that he is still trusted, still a central figure in the long-term plan. And perhaps, this is his chance to prove that age is just a number — as long as his spirit, discipline, and passion are intact.
