Pat Murphy and Stephen Vogt Win Second Consecutive MLB Manager of the Year
On November 12, 2025, Major League Baseball (MLB) announced the results of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) Manager of the Year Awards. The two winners were Pat Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers and Stephen Vogt of the Cleveland Guardians — both of whom, notably, successfully defended their titles in 2024.

At age 66, manager Pat Murphy continues to prove his immense influence with the Milwaukee Brewers. Under his leadership, the team won 97 victories in the 2025 season, leading the entire National League (NL) and earning the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
The highlight of the season was a mid-season run of form, as the Brewers won 29 of 33 games, including 14 straight – one of the most impressive streaks in the club’s history. Despite parting ways with some key players in the preseason trade window, Murphy kept the team in good shape and continued to dominate the NL Central for the second consecutive season.
With this title, Murphy became the first NL manager to win the award two years in a row since Bobby Cox (2004-2005), affirming his status as one of the best managers of the decade.
In the American League (AL), Stephen Vogt, 41, received 17 of 30 first-place votes, surpassing John Schneider (Toronto Blue Jays) and Dan Wilson (Seattle Mariners) to defend his title.
Under Vogt, the Cleveland Guardians won their second consecutive AL Central title, despite the team being in a seemingly hopeless situation. On July 6, they were 15 1/2 games behind the leaderboard – the largest deficit in MLB history that a team has ever come back from.
The team also faced many difficulties, from injuries to losing several key pitchers due to a betting investigation. However, Vogt still led the team to maintain a strong fighting spirit, ending the season with a 20-7 record in September, thereby making a spectacular playoff run.
With this victory, Vogt became the first AL manager to defend the “Manager of the Year” title since Kevin Cash (2020-2021).
It is extremely rare in MLB history for two managers to successfully defend the title in the same season. This is also the first time since the award’s inception in 1983 that both NL and AL managers have won.
Both Murphy and Vogt are in their first two seasons as MLB head coaches, but have already made a lasting impression:
Murphy exemplifies disciplined, pragmatic, and steady leadership.
Vogt brings a youthful, creative spirit and the ability to inspire young players.
The “Coach of the Year” award is one of MLB’s most prestigious honors, voted on by members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA). The award is announced during “MLB 2025 Honors Week,” the event that kicks off the offseason and honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions during the year.

By simultaneously making their names in MLB history, Pat Murphy and Stephen Vogt not only affirmed their excellent coaching ability, but also became symbols of two different coaching styles – experience and youth, courage and creativity – blending together to create a memorable season for American baseball.
