The wind at Yankee Stadium had not yet calmed down when the shocking news broke out: The New York Yankees were planning to invest 3 million USD in a special project – a statue honoring the legendary Derek Jeter. An immortal symbol was about to be “petrified”, right in the holy land of the Bronx – where “Captain No. 2” had written many golden chapters of history.
Yankees fans still remember that look – calm, decisive, and always burning with all his heart for the team. Derek Jeter, the symbol of loyalty and winning spirit, had been with the team for 20 seasons (1995–2014) in pinstripes.
Now, nearly a decade after Jeter said goodbye to MLB, the New York Yankees decided to turn that memory into an eternal symbol: a magnificent statue, placed right on the grounds of Yankee Stadium – as a tribute to the legendary captain.
According to a source close to the team, the $3 million project will break ground in early 2026, with the scale of “not just a statue, but a complete memorial space,” including a memorial garden, a display of Jeter’s trophies and personal memorabilia.
Derek Jeter was considered the soul of the Yankees during two golden decades. 5 World Series championships, more than 3,465 hits, and countless moments that made the whole of America gasp – Jeter was not just a player, but a living legend of MLB.
“There is no one more deserving than Derek Jeter,” said Yankees president Hal Steinbrenner. “He not only represents the team, but also the culture of winning and honor in New York.”
According to the revealed plan, Jeter’s statue will be more than 3 meters tall, cast in titanium alloy and bronze – a special material that will help the statue last for centuries. The base of the statue is expected to be engraved with his famous words:
“You can’t measure heart.”
The entire project will be funded by the Yankees’ own funds, along with contributions from corporate partners and the fan community. This is the largest tribute in the team’s history, since the Babe Ruth statue was erected in 2004.
“Jeter is a symbol of loyalty and sportsmanship. In an era where everything changes so quickly, he is the one thing that never fades,” former player Alex Rodriguez said emotionally.
From “The Flip” to his final walk-off at Yankee Stadium, Jeter’s memory lives on in the hearts of fans. And soon, that image will be present in steel, bronze and pride.
New Yorkers have begun calling this “Project No. 2 – The Captain Lives Forever.”

According to the disclosure, the statue’s inauguration ceremony is scheduled to be held in September 2026 – the 10th anniversary of Jeter’s honor in “Monument Park”. MLB plans to broadcast this event live as a historic day for American baseball.
For New Yorkers, this is not just a statue, but a part of the soul of the Yankees. A symbol of loyalty, pride, and the “never give up” fighting spirit that Derek Jeter left behind.
And now, when that statue is about to rise in the Bronx, fans have another reason to believe – the legend never dies, only becomes eternal.
