Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer isn’t wavering in his belief in CeeDee Lamb — even after the star wide receiver turned in one of his most uncharacteristic performances of the season during the team’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Lamb, typically known for his reliable hands and explosive playmaking ability, was plagued by multiple drops that stalled drives and contributed to a frustrating divisional loss. Yet despite the miscues, Schottenheimer made it clear this week that his trust in Lamb remains “absolutely unchanged.”
Lamb finished the game with fewer receptions than expected and missed several routine catches that fans and analysts noted could have shifted the momentum. However, instead of criticizing the receiver, Schottenheimer emphasized that drops happen to even the league’s most elite pass-catchers. “Every great receiver has games they wish they could take back,” he said. “CeeDee is one of the hardest workers in this building, one of the most competitive guys on the roster. We’re not losing an ounce of faith in him.”
The offensive coordinator also praised Lamb for owning the mistakes immediately after the game. According to Schottenheimer, Lamb was one of the first players to review film the next morning, already focused on correcting the issues that led to the drops. “He was locked in. He wanted to understand exactly what went wrong,” Schottenheimer shared. “That’s what leaders do. They don’t hide from bad games — they learn from them.”
Teammates echoed the same sentiment. Quarterback Dak Prescott defended Lamb postgame, calling him “a top-tier receiver, period,” and insisting that one off-night does nothing to change his role as the focal point of the Cowboys’ passing attack. Prescott noted that Lamb has been a steady presence throughout the season and remains central to the offense’s identity.
The Cowboys coaching staff also pointed out that Lamb has a track record of bouncing back quickly after tough outings. In previous seasons, games in which the receiver struggled were often followed by statement performances, reaffirming his status as one of the NFC’s most dangerous offensive threats.
With the Cowboys preparing for their upcoming matchup, Schottenheimer said he fully expects Lamb to respond in dominant fashion. “He’s hungry. He’s motivated. And when players like him have something to prove, they usually remind everybody why they’re special,” he said.
For the Cowboys, that belief couldn’t come at a better time. Lamb’s response in the coming weeks may determine how quickly the team can recover from the setback — and how far the offense can go down the stretch.
