House Democrats will convene a special hearing to mark the five-year solemn anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, ransacking of the Capitol, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced Monday.
The special hearing will take place on Jan. 6, 2026, at 10 a.m. to highlight the “horrors of January 6th” and “examine ongoing threats to free and fair elections” from the Trump administration.
“We must never forget the horrors of January 6th and will continue to honor the brave law enforcement officers who were injured and lost their lives defending the rule of law in the United States,” Jeffries (D-NY) wrote in a letter to his Democratic colleagues.
That backlash against Bondi and the Trump administration’s Justice Department seemingly prompted Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon to rip those MAGA influencers as “hoes.”
During his first day back in office, President Trump granted sweeping clemency to nearly 1,600 individuals convicted or prosecuted for crimes connected to the Capitol riot.
“A troubling number of the criminals pardoned by Donald Trump have been arrested for child molestation, sexual assault and kidnapping,” Jeffries noted in his letter.
Jeffries decried “far-right Republicans in Congress,” whom he accused of repeatedly attempting “to rewrite history and whitewash the events of January 6th.”
“As a result of the extraordinary bravery of the men and women of the U.S. Capitol Police and other law enforcement professionals, the treacherous effort to prevent certification of the results of the 2020 presidential election failed,” Jeffries recounted.
“However, the cost was profound. More than 140 heroic police officers were seriously injured and many suffered lasting physical and psychological trauma.”
The top House Democrat encouraged lawmakers to share their personal experience of the riot during the special hearing next week.
