First came the league-shaking swap that sent him from Dallas to Los Angeles alongside Luka Dončić last February. Now, stunning new rumors suggest that another seismic move may be on the horizon. Could AD really be heading back to his hometown to suit up for the Chicago Bulls?
Over the past week, the chatter has only intensified. Multiple league insiders, including ESPN’s Jamal Collier, have reported that the Bulls have held internal discussions about pursuing Davis. Chicago, sitting at 9–10 with a young but uneven roster, is desperate for a veteran anchor who brings championship pedigree, defensive command, and immediate star power — three things Davis, at his best, provides in abundance. And with the Mavericks stumbling to a 6–15 start, the window for a shocking midseason shake-up is suddenly wide open.
Davis is averaging 19.3 points and 9.3 rebounds across six games with Dallas, but the injury concerns remain as persistent as ever — the latest being a calf strain. His talent is undeniable, his impact still enormous, yet the durability question shadows every conversation about his future. For Chicago’s front office, that’s not just a footnote — it’s the foundation of a dilemma big enough to define the franchise’s next decade.
The Bulls’ core of Coby White, Josh Giddey, Ayo Dosunmu, and Matas Buzelis has shown promise, but the roster lacks a veteran defensive anchor and a true interior threat. A healthy Davis instantly solves both issues. His rim protection, lob finishing, and pick-and-roll compatibility with Giddey would elevate Chicago’s offense and transform its defense.
