New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has announced that he will not accept the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Donald Trump.
Earlier this week (his last week as president of the United States), Bill Belichick was scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump. Trump will present the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Bill Belichick, a legend in American football.
However, Mr. Belichick has firmly refused the honor. This coach said that he is very proud to have the opportunity to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. However, Mr. Trump’s incitement to the people to cause riots at the Capitol building has disappointed him and he refused the honor.
Last week, the riot at the US Capitol building shocked the world. A total of 5 people died in the incident. Mr. Trump later admitted to House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy that he was partly responsible for the riot at the Capitol.
Mr. Trump had previously issued messages that were deemed to “incite riots” just hours before a joint session of Congress to determine the constitutionality of the president.
Bill Belichick, born in 1952, is a famous American football coach. He led the New England Patriots to 6 Super Bowl titles.
