Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson has been officially named a nominee for the 2025 NFL Salute to Service Award, an honor recognizing players, coaches, and staff who demonstrate exceptional commitment to supporting the United States military community.
For Ferguson, the recognition goes far beyond football. Throughout the 2024–25 season, the third-year standout has dedicated his platform to honoring active-duty service members and veterans across Texas and beyond. Whether visiting VA hospitals, organizing game-day recognitions for military families, or partnering with nonprofit organizations like the USO and Wounded Warrior Project, Ferguson has consistently shown that his heart for service is as strong as his passion for the game.
“Football gives me a platform — but serving others gives it meaning,” Ferguson said in a recent interview. “The men and women who wear that uniform give us the freedom to play this game. The least I can do is show them they’re never forgotten.”
The Salute to Service Award, presented annually by the NFL and USAA, highlights the league’s ongoing effort to honor military heroes and those who advocate on their behalf. Each of the 32 NFL teams selects one nominee, with a national winner announced during NFL Honors ahead of Super Bowl LIX.
Ferguson’s nomination reflects not only his commitment to community service but also the leadership he’s displayed within the Cowboys organization. Teammates have praised his humility and drive, noting that he’s often the first to volunteer when opportunities to serve arise.
“Jake’s one of those guys who just gets it,” said head coach Mike McCarthy. “He’s grateful for what he has, and he wants to give back. That’s the kind of example every locker room needs.”
On the field, Ferguson has emerged as a reliable target for quarterback Dak Prescott, building on a breakout 2024 campaign that solidified his status as one of the NFL’s rising stars at tight end. But off the field, his focus remains on something even bigger — using his success to inspire others to serve, support, and honor America’s heroes.
As Ferguson put it simply:
“The real warriors aren’t on the field — they’re the ones who’ve already fought for us.”
