Prescott, known for his poise and passion both on and off the field, revealed this week that his mother, Peggy Prescott, received a life-saving organ transplant earlier this year. The donor was an 18-year-old from Texas whose family chose to give the gift of life after tragedy struck.
At a press conference following practice, an emotional Dak spoke about the young donor and the impact their sacrifice had on his family.
“I don’t even have words,” Prescott said, his voice breaking. “That young man’s choice — and his family’s strength — gave my mom a second chance. He’s a hero. And I’ll honor him every day I play this game.”
To honor the donor, Prescott wore custom cleats during the Cowboys’ Sunday matchup, featuring the donor’s initials and the message “Gift of Life.” He also met privately with the donor’s parents earlier in the week, sharing hugs and tears in an emotional exchange that quickly spread online.
The moment drew massive praise from fans and teammates alike.
“That’s Dak,” said linebacker Micah Parsons. “He’s more than a quarterback — he’s a man who leads with heart.”
NFL fans flooded social media with messages of admiration, with hashtags like #CowboysFamily and #GiftOfLife trending across platforms. Many called Prescott’s gesture “one of the most genuine moments of the NFL season.”
The Cowboys’ captain has long been open about his family’s struggles and the influence of his late mother, who passed away from cancer in 2013. His ongoing charity work through the Faith, Fight, Finish Foundation focuses on cancer research and mental health awareness — but this tribute, he said, “was personal.”
“This game gives me a platform,” Prescott added. “And if I can use it to remind people that heroes come in all forms — even in loss — that means more than any touchdown.”
For Cowboys Nation, it was a reminder that their leader isn’t just defined by wins, but by the way he carries his heart.
