Elon Musk is once again at the center of a political firestorm — and this time, it’s not because of a new post, but because of something he tried to erase. A pair of tweets the tech billionaire deleted months ago have resurfaced online just as newly released emails from Jeffrey Epstein’s circle triggered a fresh scandal involving former President Donald Trump.
The controversy erupted on Wednesday, when Democrats on the House Oversight Committee published a series of emails suggesting Epstein claimed Trump was aware of his misconduct. In one of the messages, Epstein reportedly wrote that “of course [Trump] knew about the girls,” while another alleged the former president “spent hours” at Epstein’s home with one of the victims.
The emails do not prove wrongdoing by Trump, but their release immediately reignited scrutiny of everyone who had previously spoken about the secretive “Epstein files” — including Elon Musk.
Deleted Musk Tweets Come Roaring Back
Back in June, Musk posted two explosive accusations claiming Trump’s name appeared in unreleased Epstein-related documents.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files,” Musk wrote in the now-deleted message. “That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”
A second tweet suggested Musk would only apologize to Trump “as soon as there is a full dump of the Epstein files.” That tweet disappeared shortly afterward as well.
But the internet never forgets. Screenshots recirculated at lightning speed after the new emails dropped this week, with thousands of users reposting the deleted messages and demanding answers from the billionaire.
One viral account wrote:

Political Fallout Intensifies
The released emails immediately sharpened partisan tensions.
Democrats argued that the messages raise serious questions about how much Trump knew and why the Epstein client list remains tightly sealed. They urged the White House to make the complete Epstein files public.
Republicans on the committee fired back within hours, releasing 23,000 pages of documents and accusing Democrats of “cherry-picking” emails “to generate clickbait.”
Trump himself dismissed the scandal as a political stunt, posting on Truth Social that Democrats were “trying to bring up the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax again” to distract from the government shutdown and “their own failures.”
In an NBC News interview, Trump downplayed Musk’s accusations and the emails alike:
“That’s called old news. That’s been talked about for years…and even Epstein’s lawyer said I had nothing to do with it.”
He insisted he had not been friendly with Epstein for nearly two decades before the financier died in 2019.
The White House echoed Trump’s position. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt denounced the release as “a manufactured hoax by the Democratic Party,” arguing that the controversy was timed to distract from ongoing political battles.
