At the memorial for conservative activist Charlie Kirk on September 21, President Trump shook hands with Elon Musk at the VIP stand of State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

During the ceremony honoring Charlie Kirk — the conservative activist killed on September 21 — Trump and Musk sat side by side in a private room, conversing casually throughout the event. The U.S. President even introduced Musk to UFC CEO Dana White, according to The Hill.

This marked the first public appearance of the two power figures since their clash over the Trump administration’s “Only Big, Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA). U.S. media outlets described the reunion as a “thaw” in their personal relationship, with potential implications for the Republican Party, the MAGA movement, and the tech industry’s ties to Trump’s administration.

In his remarks at the memorial, Trump expressed sorrow over Kirk’s passing, calling the 31-year-old activist “one of America’s brightest lights” — a “giant” of his generation, as well as a devoted husband, father, and Christian.

Billionaire Elon Musk also said he felt “deeply honored” to join tens of thousands of people at Kirk’s memorial.

Musk was once one of Trump’s closest allies, heavily investing in his campaign and being tasked with reducing government spending through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

However, their relationship soured due to disagreements over OBBBA — a budget and tax-cut bill — culminating in a personal clash on social media on June 5.

At one point, Musk even announced plans to launch a new political party — the “American Party.” He suggested the new movement, funded by him, could begin by targeting easily contested seats in the House and Senate.

Later, however, Musk called Trump directly and publicly admitted he “regretted” some statements that “went too far.”

Meanwhile, the U.S. President denied rumors that he intended to hinder Musk’s businesses, insisting he wanted them to “grow stronger than ever before.”
