PITTSBURGH, PA — The Steelers’ season isn’t dead yet.
Behind a relentless pass rush and a balanced offensive effort, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Indianapolis Colts 27–20 on Sunday afternoon at Acrisure Stadium, improving to 5–4 and keeping their playoff hopes alive in the jam-packed AFC.
Quarterback Kenny Pickett put together one of his most efficient games of the year, throwing for over 200 yards and connecting with George Pickens and Pat Freiermuth on key third-down conversions. But the real story, as usual in Pittsburgh, was the defense.
T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith combined for three sacks, constantly disrupting Colts quarterback Gardner Minshew and forcing a critical turnover in the fourth quarter that set up the game-sealing field goal. Watt’s strip-sack with just under two minutes remaining drew one of the loudest roars of the season from the home crowd.
“That’s Steelers football,” head coach Mike Tomlin said postgame. “Physical, gritty, finish-strong football. That’s our DNA.”
Running back Najee Harris also found the end zone twice, showing the kind of power and patience fans have been waiting to see all year. His 95 rushing yards helped Pittsburgh control the clock late and shut down any chance of an Indy comeback.
Despite a late push from the Colts — capped by a 45-yard touchdown strike from Minshew to Michael Pittman Jr. — the Steelers’ defense stood tall, forcing a turnover on downs near midfield with under a minute left.
“We knew we had to close it out ourselves,” Watt said. “That’s what great defenses do.”
The victory snaps a two-game skid for Pittsburgh and keeps them firmly in the mix for a Wild Card berth as the season hits its midpoint.
🔥 Next up: a primetime showdown with the Cleveland Browns — and another chance for the Steelers to prove they belong among the AFC elite.
