Tyler Robinson, 22, arrested for killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, comes from a staunch MAGA family, his grandmother revealed. Despite his family’s loyalty to Trump, Tyler confessed to his father before being turned in.
In a shocking twist to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the grandmother of the suspected killer has revealed that their family has always been “all MAGA.”
Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested after Kirk, 31, was fatally shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. While speculation immediately turned political, Debbie Robinson, 69, the suspect’s grandmother, told the Daily Mail that her family has always been Trump supporters.
“My son, his dad, is a Republican for Trump,” Debbie said. “Most of my family members are Republican. I don’t know any single one who’s a Democrat. I’m just so confused. Tyler is the shyest person, and he has never once spoken about politics to me. He has never, ever been in trouble before.”
According to public records, both of Tyler’s parents are registered Republicans. His mother, Amber Robinson, 44, is a licensed social worker, while his father, Matt Robinson, 48, owns a countertop and cabinetry business in Washington, Utah. Both parents have held hunting licenses, and one of Tyler’s brothers was even described by Amber as a “gun-toting, cowboy-loving, brilliant kid.”
The shocking twist? It was Matt Robinson, Tyler’s father, who turned his own son into authorities after Tyler confessed to the killing.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox stated that Tyler had “become more political in recent years.” Reports indicate that he even discussed Kirk’s upcoming event at a family dinner on September 10, criticizing Kirk’s viewpoints. Meanwhile, incriminating Discord messages obtained from Tyler’s roommate further implicated him, though Discord clarified the platform was not used to plan the attack.
President Donald Trump weighed in during a Fox News interview, declaring: “I hope he gets punished to the fullest extent of the law. I would imagine he will be found guilty, and I hope he gets the death penalty.”
As prosecutors prepare to file charges next week, the case has shocked many—especially with the revelation that the suspect came from a family that had long stood firmly in the MAGA movement.
