Harry returned to the UK on September 8 to attend charity events, coinciding with the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. He visited his grandmother’s grave, appeared at the WellChild Awards and then traveled to Nottingham to meet local youth.
Meanwhile, the 76-year-old King left Scotland to return to the capital on September 10. In addition to meeting his youngest son, he also presided over a medal ceremony for Manfred Goldberg for his contribution to Holocaust education, and met with South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas.

Observers saw the afternoon tea as a significant step forward, after months of Harry trying to contact his father but receiving no response. Earlier, some of the prince’s new advisers and senior royal staff had met, seen as a major step towards reopening the dialogue.
However, the rift between Harry and Prince William remains deep. Although the two brothers live in London and are only a few miles apart, they have not met . Historian Robert Lacey commented: “This rift is very deep and will not change until Harry takes the initiative to apologize.”
