HOUSTON, Texas — The baseball community is in shock after the family of former Houston Astros player Craig Biggio confirmed that he is battling a serious illness, and that his health “suddenly worsened.”
The Biggio family shared in an official statement today:
“He suddenly felt unwell and was hospitalized for emergency treatment. Craig is fighting with all his strength, but we ask everyone to pray and send him positive energy.”
Craig Biggio, 55, was one of the living icons of the Astros, playing for his entire 20-year career from 1988–2007. A seven-time All-Star, four Gold Gloves, and one of the few players to hit 3,000 hits, Biggio is not only a legend in the eyes of fans but also a model of loyalty and fighting spirit.
Biggio is not only famous for his achievements on the field but also a big influence in the Houston community. He has participated in many charitable activities, child development programs and support for former players. His family said that his optimism and resilience have helped Biggio overcome many challenges in the past, but this illness is the biggest challenge yet.

In his 20-year career, Biggio had 3,060 hits, 414 home runs, 1,175 RBIs and more than 1,500 walks, making him one of the most complete players in MLB history. He was also a member of the Hall of Fame in 2015, a testament to the great legacy Biggio left for the Astros and baseball in general.
