The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 in the Super Bowl to win the American Football Championship in Florida on February 7.

While Manchester United struggled to regain their Premier League glory, across the Atlantic, the Glazers’ other team won the most prestigious title in American sports. In Super Bowl 55, the Glazers’ Tampa Bay Buccaneers did not give the Chiefs any chance to come back, leading the first three quarters by scores of 7-3, 14-3, 10-3, before tying 0-0 in the fourth.

This was the Buccaneers’ second Super Bowl title, following their first in 2002. Both titles came under the Glazer family, who have owned the team since 1995.
The most notable figure in the Buccaneers’ victory was veteran quarterback Tom Brady. The 43-year-old star showed his class by leading the Florida team to a victory over last season’s champion – the Chiefs. This was Brady’s 10th Super Bowl, which saw him win his 7th championship and receive the Super Bowl MVP award for the fifth time. These are all records in American football, solidifying Brady’s position as the “GOAT” (Greatest Player of All Time) in the history of this sport.

Before the 2020 season, doubtful eyes were on Brady and the Buccaneers. In March 2020, Tom Brady, 42, left the New England Patriots after 20 years to move to the Florida Gulf Coast, where the Buccaneers offered him a $50 million contract for two seasons. Many people thought Brady was past his prime, and that it would be difficult for him to continue playing at the top level after leaving the East Coast. However, Brady proved otherwise, as he has many times in his life.

Before Super Bowl 55, the Buccaneers, despite playing at home in Florida, were still considered underdogs to the defending champion Chiefs. The bookmakers even gave the Chiefs a three-point handicap over the Buccaneers. This stemmed from the Chiefs’ convincing performance on the road to the Super Bowl and their determination to defend their championship title.

But “old man” Brady and the Buccaneers’ defense poured cold water on the visitors. While Brady had a great performance, successfully completing 21 of 29 passes, a total of more than 200 yards to help the team score 3 touchdowns, the Buccaneers’ defense was equally brilliant. The home defense made Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes have the most forgettable game of his career. Mahomes had no touchdowns and was constantly knocked down.

Of the three touchdowns Brady threw, two were for his close teammate Rob Gronkowski. The duo won three Super Bowls with the Patriots and continued to shine for the Buccaneers. Before the 2020 season, it was Brady who convinced the Buccaneers’ management to trade a draft pick with the Patriots to bring Gronkowski back. This decision helped the Buccaneers become the first team in history to win the Super Bowl at home.
